Pivot table summary by rows possible?

I have data organized with the first 5 columns representing attributes and the next 12 columns showing data by month.

The first 5 columns are:
Category
Sub Category
Product Type
Pack Type
Org / Conventional

The next 12 columns are projected volumes by month.

What I want to be able to do is display summary information by various combinations of the first 5 columns columns by month. For example, I would want to see the data by category and Org/Conventional by month.

Is a pivot table the right way to do this or is there another solution?

Thanks!

(and great board by the way. I'll be a frequent visitor)

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
Hope I've picke dyou up right - can you not put the first 5 columns into the page field instead of the row field.

You will then get drop down boxes for each category and you can modify the views as you please

Well, I can do that but it still gives me the wrong info.

The problem I am having is that my data is already arranged by month. So when I go to put in the pivot table, it is asking for the data field to summarize.

In my data, the 12 months of data doesn't necessarily have a label other than the month heading. Under each month is projected volumes but I don't have a projected volumes heading but 12 columns with volume by month.

Hope that makes sense...
