Pivot Tables Basic question..

Basic, meaning I don't know what I'm doing -
Never been shown how to create a table.
Based on 5 columns of data, each cell containing different data,
How to a create a pivot, by column...giving me the options of selecting or sorting whatever I want, with the pulldown.
Let me know if more info is needed.
