Hi all.

I use an excel/vb system to manage our jobs and invoicing for work. I've been working on it for some time and add new form/features regularly. It has been used all day today, saved regularly and shown no issues or errors. As I left work today I saved it one last time, shut the laptop down and went home. On my return I loaded the laptop, tried to open the file and was faced with this error:

Microsoft Excel File Repair Log
Errors were detected in file 'C:\Users\WIN 7\Dropbox\MARRS 4.0.xls'
The following is a list of repairs:
Damage to the file was so extensive that repairs were not possible. Excel attempted to recover your formulas and values, but some data may have been lost or corrupted.

Everything has gone! Fortunately after adding some new forms last night I saved a version under 'MARRS 4.1.xls' which has remained untouched today so all that has been lost has been today's work, but this is quite a lot so if possible I would like to recover it. My main concern is why it's happened and will it happen again? I've tried recovery software but the only ones that appear to work are trial versions.

Can anybody help? I'm in a bit of a panic and if anyone has any words of wisdom I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks in advance

Phil

Excel Facts

Spell Check in Excel
Press F7 to start spell check in Excel. Be careful, by default, Excel does not check Capitalized Werds (whoops)
Is there normally delay in them coming through? I don't have a message.

It's probably worth adding that I have opened the file in google docs and the information on the pages is there on the corrupt file, is this an Excel problem?

pboltonchina,

I have removed your email address from your previous post. You really shouldn't post it on Public Forums like these, as Spambots routinely patrol public user forums like this looking for email addresses to harvest and Spam.

Also, we request that you try to answer the problems on-line here and not take them off-line (rule #7 here: http://www.mrexcel.com/forum/showthread.php?t=99490).

Hi Joe4, sorry about that but I sent a pm that the end user didn't get. I was offering to use Excel 2007's repair facility which I can't really do on this forum.
I will refrain from posting my email address openly on this forum in the future.
I don't want to get into trouble, I love this site too much.

Its not so much that you will get in trouble with us for posting your email address. More than anything, that guideline was put in place to help protect our users from the evil that is Spam!
