populating an active x combobox on a sheet

can anyone point me as to how to populate the list in a combo box taking the data from mySQL (i know how to retrieve the data set just not how to tell the combobox to use it)
I am trying to do this WITHOUT having to copy the list into a range

If you array the data then maybe:

    Dim ComboList(), x As Long
    ComboList = Array("A", "B", "C", "D")
    Worksheets("Sheet1").ComboBox1.Clear
    For x = 0 To UBound(ComboList)
      Worksheets("Sheet1").ComboBox1.AddItem ComboList(x)
    Next
End Sub
