Prevent Excel from changing format

Using the OutputTo function in Access, I am converting a Access report into and Excel file and my Access text fields are converting to a "general" format field in Excel, preventing the data from transferring correctly. (i.e. I have a access text field with the following data 01310-03, converting to -215310 in Excel.) I have tried everything on the Access side to fix this and know exploring the Excel side. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

That is sad. A harsh band-aid would be to concatenate a double-quote before and after the fields as they are created in Access, and dealing with them as necessary in Excel.

Another W.A. technique is to - assuming A1 is imported data, and B1 is available - have concatenating formulas on the receiving end, such as B1=A1 & "" .

You'll want to experiment with this, because I can't reproduce your problem at the moment. These are just the catch-all crutches that come to mind when I'm stuck like you are.

there is a data validation command that can be set for just dates/ whole numbers etc, check it out in the help menu see if that'll do the job for you
