Problems Creating a Trial Version Macro

I am attempting to create a "Trial Version" of my workbook that will only open "x" amount of times. I have a working model but really just making multiple copies of the workbook before the trial version ends beats my system.

It runs a sub on open , adds 1 to my "opened "X" times" variable and closes the workbook if my variable is more than 10.

Is there a way to have an external file could be used to keep my count?
That way any copy of the workbook that is opened would add to the count.

Many thanks to anyone that can help, for now im going to try to go answer some simpler questions i might be able to help with.

This is a great place and I want to contribute my part as well.

Which Excel functions can ignore hidden rows?
The SUBTOTAL and AGGREGATE functions ignore hidden rows. AGGREGATE can also exclude error cells and more.

That way any copy of the workbook (on any given PC) that is opened would add to the count.

If you store an ID in your workbook and store the "Open Count" on a remote server, this would be better. However, it would require internet access, firewall considerations, ect... Most users would not have a problem with this.

See this post for info on using the registry.

See the help files for:
GetSetting, and SaveSetting. There are a few other functions for the registry as well...
