Prompt to save on exit

Why is it that Excel 2010 sometimes prompts me to save my file when exiting and other times it does not? In each case I have edited the file.

Links? Where??
If Excel says you have links but you can't find them, go to Formulas, Name Manager. Look for old links to dead workbooks & delete.
Do you have the AutoSace feature turned on (see: http://www.thebestdata.com/zoom.aspx?menutype=1&auto=2190).

If you have make changes since the last AutoSave, I would suspect it will prompt you to save the new changes since the last AutoSave.

If you have not made any changes since the last AutoSave, I would expect you would not get prompted in that scenario.
