Protect cells from specific users

I have done some searches and found the password method of protecting sheets but is there a method for only allowing certain users to change specific cells?

Example: I only want users A & B to be able to change the top 2 rows but users A, B, and C can change rows 3 through 5... something like that

Is there a shortcut key for strikethrough?
Ctrl+S is used for Save. Ctrl+5 is used for Strikethrough. Why Ctrl+5? When you use hashmarks to count |||| is 4, strike through to mean 5.
i have a login - welcome screen in some apps where i want to screen access to different users. each user has a PIN and then i have a userform as my main menu. this works well for me and allows audit style logging of important transactions made to data. i use a global variable to store the user's ID/name.

this would give you the opportunity to effect different outcomes when users access cells by using the worksheet_change event

Thanks for the response.

Is there a way that I could use VB to find the username when the workbook is opened and protect cells based on the username? I was hoping for something simple that the user would not even know was happening, so no passwords or anything like that... There won't be too many different people who actually use this
