Hello all.

Is there a limit to the number of queries that access 2003 will allow?

I going to need to create some 800 individual queries.

I know there are about 10 different/easier/better ways to do what I need to do, but the powers-that-be have decided that instead of consolidating they would rather have 1 query for each process as opposed to one query that may work on numerous processes.

I don't think there is

They are IDIOTS! And by doing that they are making it way more likely that the database will corrupt. And maintenance will be a nightmare.

Make sure that you let them know that they can have their way but it way more likely that the database will corrupt and keep corrupting with that many in place. There may not be specific limit to what Access will allow (short of the file size being 2 Gb including system tables) but it doesn't mean it won't have problems because of it.

Like Bob, I would avoid this situation at all costs.

Bob mentioned maintenance nightmare. Here is a simple example of that. Let's say you have created your database with all 800 queries, and get let's even assume that it all works OK, without any corruption issues (best-case scenario). Now, let's say that you need to make some small addition or change to the structure of one of your underlying tables. That could result in you having to update all 800 queries!!!

Maybe you can charge them by the query!;)

BOB......YOU ARE PREACHING TO THE CHOIR!!!!!!!!

I begged for them to let me come up with multiprocessing queries. Their response...
What are you worried about, you are only a contract worker you don't have to worry about the data integrity. To which I told them, ok..... When I deliver you will be signing a waiver acknowledging that I won't be responsible.

Well, I wish I could say, Yeah there's a max of 300 queries which then would give you some leeway but it wouldn't be true. :D

Good luck with it. And if I were you I would get out of there as quick as possible as it is obvious that they don't know what they're doing and if it translates there, who knows what other idiotic things they are doing in the business.

They won't be the first or the last.

Did you point out that one form with a drop-down list could handle the queries instead? And take less time to build? And have less chance of corruption? And reduced maintenance overhead?

If you did, and they still won't listen, get out of there like Bob said.

I provided a design doc that included check boxes so the user could basicly config the report(s) on their own.

I'm starting to see why the $$$$ was so good.
