Quick named range question

Hi,
Quick question on named ranges. I'm auditing someone else's spreadsheet and they have many named ranges with the same name. The scope of these ranges is either the name of a worksheet or "workbook".

If in a formula in worksheet 1, I reference a named range (ex. "Rate"), and there are many named ranges in the workbook with the same name but differet scopes, which named range will the formula refer to? What is the heirarchy if there are many named ranges with the same name?

Thanks.

Excel Facts

Why are there 1,048,576 rows in Excel?
The Excel team increased the size of the grid in 2007. There are 2^20 rows and 2^14 columns for a total of 17 billion cells.
It will refer to the name local to that sheet if there is one, or a workbook-level one if not. For a name local to another sheet the formula would have to include the sheet name.
FYI, it is generally regarded as a bad idea to use both workbook and worksheet level names that are the same.
