How do i put a range of numbers into a cell, while having the accounting sign on the left?
I'm guessing I have to use "custom" under cell format...but how?

Like:

[ $ 10,000 - 12,000 ]

Excel Facts

What is the fastest way to copy a formula?
If A2:A50000 contain data. Enter a formula in B2. Select B2. Double-click the Fill Handle and Excel will shoot the formula down to B50000.
I would list the lower and upper range in two columns, then join them together in a third column with the following:

=TEXT(B4,"$0.0") & " - " & TEXT(C4,"$0.0")

Oh but that's too specific to a cell...
Maybe i wasn't clear, but i want it to apply to all cells...

if it's 2,000...just show me [ $ 2,000 ]
if it's a range, show me [ $ 2,000 - 3,000 ]

..etc

I am not sure if its possible with a custom format. I would be inclined to keep the input seperate, and use the above formula to display it in your desired format where needed.

I do not know the context of what your trying to solve, but it may be more prudent to do the above if that particular format is a must.

Try custom format

\$ @

But be aware that using this type of format could cause havoc with any formula pulling values from these cells.

this format doesn't change single numbers to accounting. i.e. 1000 didn't become $1,000. It just stayed as 1000.

Also, it didn't follow accounting format by having the $ all the way to the left, and the digits to the right. Instead it looked like this:

[ $ 1000 - 2000 ]

It's the closest you will get [ 1000 - 2000 ] is a text value so you can't use number formats with it.

Worked fine for me with single numbers.
