range question

Sorry if this question has been asked. I googled and searched and couldn't find an exact match (I have myself asked a similar but not the same question).

I have numbers (id#s) in column A. They look like this and go into the 10,000s:

1
1
2
2
2
3
3
3
4
4
4
4
4

Each number means client x did something. I wanted to create a range to group these numbers into buckets of 1000. That way, I can see how the first 1000 clients acted compared to say, the last 1000. I know this can easily be done on a pivot table via grouping.. but i need to do in a regular worksheet so I can sort better.

Thank you in advance.
