Reference to a URL

I need to write a formula for a client and I cannot check it prior to sending. It will either be ='http:\\companynet.vsm\tempfiles\[AC-Rec.xls]Sheet1'!A17 or ='http://companynet.vsm/tempfiles/[AC-Rec.xls]Sheet1'!A17. I am not sure of the correct format.
 

Excel Facts

Format cells as date
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+3 to format cells as date. (Shift 3 is the # sign which sort of looks like a small calendar).
