Remove a character and transfer it to another cell

Hi guys,

I would like you to help me a bit please. I have an excel spreadsheet with lots of data, and I would like to remove a character from a cell and transfer it to another cell. Or at least copy it to another cell and then just use replace to delete the character.
But the problem is that I want to remove the 5th character.
So lets say I want to remove the 5th character from the cell A1 and place it in A2. Or for simplicity just copy the fifth character of A1 to A2 and then use replace to delete it.

Can anybody please help me with that because I am seriously stacked?

Hi,

Are the number of characters in the cells all the same??

if so, to remove the number 5 from 123456789

=LEFT(A1,4)&RIGHT(A1,4)

There's probably a neater solution though..

Aha!

Knew there would be a better way!

=REPLACE(A1,5,1,"")

Replaces from the 5th digit for only one digit with nothing!

Should do the job!

I can remove it via replace as well, what about copying the fifth character to another cell?

Gets you the 5th digit on its own..

the first two work perfectly, the last one for copying the fifth character does not work! I do not know why

Ooops It was pointing at C5 not A1...
