Hi, New to 2007, but the R1C1 reference box is now always checked whenever I open a new excel file. Everytime I have to go to Formula, and uncheck that reference box. Is there a global way to not show in R1C1?

Thanks!

Yes, I now have to do that step every time I open a new workbook. I was wondering if there was a higher level which would stop it from having that references checked each time.

thanks!

That is an applicaiton-level setting, not per workbook, so I suspect you have some code running that sets it at startup. If you open a workbook, turn that setting off and then open another workbook from within Excel, does it turn itself back on?

Could that setting be from the default Excel Template?
Just change the R1C1 setup on the "book.xlt" file. This is the template file off which every workbook you create is based.
The location of the book.xlt file varies with the version of excel you are running. I don't remember where it is kept in Excel 2003.

@ Rorya: If I open excel, uncheck the R1C1 reference, close excel and open it again, that check box is again checked.

@ Datsmart: I'm using version 2007

Thanks!

@ Rorya: if I open excel, open a workbook, uncheck, then immediately open a second workbook the box remains unchecked. yet if I close excel and reopen the application the box will be checked again!

Do you have any start up files such as a personal macro workbook?
Also has this just recently started happening?

Does it still happen if you remove the startup files temporarily?
