Removing visible cell contents

If I was to type white text in cell B1 (to make the contents unreadable against the white background) then click in Cell A1 and highlight across B1, the contents of B1 would be visible, as the colour of the highlight is a pale grey/blue which makes the white text stand out.

Is it possible to completely remove all visible traces of data in a cell?
