What other information should you have before establishing a spreadsheet, such as determining user information?

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
Welcome to the board.

Your question is so vague it's difficult to know what you're looking for.

What's the purpose of the spreadsheet?

To access a database and display existing information? To collect and analyse information from barcode scanners or environmental sensors? To collect information from users via a userform and analyse it, send it to a database, turn it into a graph or chart?

To monitor system conditions and generate emails or SMS messages warning support personnel of problems? To model complex systems (financial, weather, marine, etc) and attempt to predict trends?

To create a library of MP3 files, editing the properties of the files to insert artist/album/track/genre information automatically? To synchronise workstations and server folders? To calculate nitrogen absorption in scuba divers? To help you solve Sudoku puzzles? To emulate a chess clock?

To ftp files to a Web server? To download information on share prices or currency exchange rates? To calculate great circle distances given the latitude and longitude of two points on the earth's surface? To calculate cycle times in production processes and identify bottlenecks? To operate a school attendance register?

I could go on... do you see what I mean?

What is it that you're trying to do?

Not to sound rude, but I'm not sure what answer you expected. It's difficult to know what answer you want when your questions are so vague.

For a list of Products for example you would need a part number, description, OEM reference, maybe a cost/retail/trade price
For Contacts you'd need Names, Addresses, Telephone numbers, E-mail address

The information you need depends on what your spreadsheet is going to be used for, what you plan to do with the information. If you're going to be reporting from it you need to think about what information you'll be asked to provide. If you're just using it as a data store you just put in whatever information you have, and add to it.

Hope this helps

Knowing the orbital velocity of the moon is always something I find very useful to know before establishing a spreadsheet. Helps avoid problems of lunacy which seems to be quite in vogue lately

To explain my non-nonsensical reply, your question is far too open and vague to give any constructive, meaningful reply to.

What is your spreadsheet for? Is your spreadsheet for:
- Tracking cash flows for a company to help prepare regulatory reporting, or valuation purposes, e.g. to invest into or propose as a takeover target? In this case you will need to know financial information for that firm over a given time period, assumed future growth rates, tax assumptions and guesstimates of discount rates

- Storing test grades for a class of students?
The student names, the scores

- Used to create charts or graphs with, for purposes only known to you?
What type of data you are wishing to graph, where it originates from, it's accuracy

- Etc etc
etc etc

You'll find the more precise a question you ask on this board, the more helpful (and usually faster a reply) you'll get
