Retain cell format in text reference

I am trying to generate content in a cell that comprises a text component followed by the contents of a variable cell. I need to retain the format of the content in the referred cell.

Thus, my formula is:
="Color = "&A258 where A258 will contain a date in short date format (e.g. 4/3/23).

What I get is "Color = 45019"

How can I get "Color = 4/3/23"?
