Hello everyone,

I am trying to find a way to return the characters in between "-" on the right and the same character "-" on the left. So in A2 in might read "jan-1-14" or "06-30-15".

I would like to write a formula in the cell D2 that would return "1" for the first instance and "30" for the second instance.

Thanks for helping,
Mike

Excel Facts

Enter current date or time
Ctrl+: enters current time. Ctrl+; enters current date. Use Ctrl+: Ctrl+; Enter for current date & time.
How is the text formatted? Is it stored as text or as a date?

Have you tried simply =DAY(A1)?

If it truly is text, then use this:

Code:
=MID(A1,FIND("-",A1)+1,(FIND("-",A1,FIND("-",A1)+1)-FIND("-",A1))-1)
