I'm trying to create an if/then formula that tests two cells for which is greater than the other and then return the value of the cell that is greater. I've tried several different versions, but can't seem to get it right.

Excel Facts

Format cells as currency
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+4 to format cells as currency. (Shift 4 is the $ sign).
Welcome to the Board!

You don't need an IF/THEN. The MAX function will do it for you, i.e. to return the larger of the values in A1 and B1, use:
Excel Formula:
=MAX(A1,B1)
