I want the formula in cell B1.

If I type in EMPLOYEE 2 into cell A1, I would like excel to find Employee 2 in cells A3:A5 and return the match in B3:B5 ...in this case Employee 2 returns 26

Excel Facts

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
=vlookup(a1,a3:b5,2,false)

where a1 contains the value you want to look up, a3:b5 is the table to look in (a1 will be looked for in the first column of the table), 2 is the column from which the value should be returned, i.e. second column, false signifies an exact match is required.

this will leave cell blank if there is no selection in A1
Code:
=IF($A$1="","",INDEX(B3:B5,MATCH(A1,A3:A5,0)))
