I was wondering if it is possible to put a mutiplication formula in one cell and either have the answer appear in the same cell or the next cell after

Ex: A1 12*4 then either have = answer in the same cell or the next cell being the answer

I know this may sound ridiculous but I have tables formatted throughout the spreadsheet and I only have 2 cells to insert this data in if not possible its fine i will just withhold it

When did Power Query debut in Excel?
Although it was an add-in in Excel 2010 & Excel 2013, Power Query became a part of Excel in 2016, in Data, Get & Transform Data.
Yes, you type an = sign in before the formula, so:-
Code:
=12*4
