Same Day last month formula

What would the formula be to get the same day of the previous month.
Ex. Today is May 5 result is April 5. Regardless of how many days per month always return the same day of the month.

=EDATE(A1,-1)

That works for today, but what if I want to use a date given in another cell?

Just replace TODAY() with A1 (three times).
