Hello!
I am trying to generate a secondary axis (vertical) for my line chart but the axis is automatically added on the right along with the primary axis & its difficult to differentiate between the two. Is it possible to separte the secondary & primary axes in a line chart? I want the secondary axis to show on left & primary on the right. The only way I am able to separate them is by using BAR graph for one series & LINE for another. I want line chart for both the series & show vertical axes on left & right.

I appreciate any responses.
Thanks

Can a formula spear through sheets?
Use =SUM(January:December!E7) to sum E7 on all of the sheets from January through December
If you plot the two series as an x-y scatter chart, format each series to join the points with a line then plot one series on the secondary axis you should achieve your desired effect.

Click on the chart to select the data line. Right click and choose "Format Data Series/Axis" You then have a button box to select primary or secondary axis.

Thanks for your replies.

@VoG, It does the same for scatter chart too. Keeps adding the secondary axis on the right, along with primary. I want to change 'where' the secondary axis is displayed & i am unable to find any options

@grizle, I already have a secondary axis & I am trying to move it to the left side of the chart. Both vertical axes are on the right side of the chart. I want primary on the right end & secondary on the left end of the chart.

Explain the difference between your primary and secondary axes, and say why you can't make the primary have your "secondary" attributes, and vice versa?

Excells terminology of Primary and secondary is just another way of saying left hand and right hand. Primary does not imply it has more importance. Just swap over the primary and seconday formats of the two lines in the Format dialog boxes.

Doesnt matter for me which is primary & secondary axes. All I want is for them to appear at different sides of the chart. Cant draw it here, but something like this:

Secondary axis.....CHART.....Primary axis

My line chart is showing the axes like this:

CHART.......Primary axis Secondary Axis

There is hardly any separation between the two axes. They appear right next to eachother. I dont want them together on one side, but at the opposite ends of the chart.

my horizontal axis has a negative range 0 to -50
primary & secondary vertical axis are both positive range.

So maybe that has an effect. But i think i should still be able to separate them. Its strange that Format Axis box doesn't have any options to select the placement.
