My boss sends an e-mail - with Excel workbook attached - every morning but he think people are not opening it as they should,. Since the document is attached to the e-mail (and not saved on the cloud), I do not think there is any way to get an alert to show who opened the workbook.

Am I correct?

Wildcard in VLOOKUP
Use =VLOOKUP("Apple*" to find apple, Apple, or applesauce
As far as I know, you are correct, Outlook does not have a way of indicating if an attachment is opened.
There are (from a Google search) Outlook add-ins that can do it, suggest you do a bit of searching the internet
good luck.
There is an alternative approach. Leave the file on the server and notify people the file has been updated. Your boss could then track who opened the file but that would only work if each user enabled macros to trigger the alert, they could just open it without enabling macros and by-pass the tracking.
The only real way is to send a reply to your boss each day and tell him you have done it.
Paul.
