Select pivot field items with VBA

I was using some code that overwrites the current entry. That's a problem if the entry isn't present in the particular pivotfield's collection.

How do I check the pivotfield's collection to see if an item is already present?

Alternatively, how do I select an item that's already present in a pivotfield collection?
