Select Row, Turn on Autofilter, Filters on Too Many Columns

Normally when I select a row (typically column headings) and then turn on Auto Filter, only the columns with data show the Filter drop down symbol. However, when working on pre-existing worksheets, the filter symbols appear way out to the right...like columns DZ, CA, etc. even there is no data there.

Do I have hidden data out that far? What's causing Excel to want to filter on these empty columns?

Many thanks....

When they said you are going to "Excel at life", they meant you "will be doing Excel your whole life".

Only you will know if there is data past your Columns of interest.

It is normal for Excel to place the Filter buttons out to the last column that has data.

Try this on a copy of your sheet.

If you are sure YOUR data goes to say column Z, higlight column AA > hold the Ctrl & Shift keys then press the right arrow.

Then press the Delete key > Save > Close > reopen.

Now try the Filter

I tested with data in A:G and then placed something in a row on Column XFD. Sure enough, Filter arrows in all columns.
