I have a spread sheet with 20k+ rows and want to shade every other "group" (column A) of items. There could be 1 to 6 rows in each group. If I could shade the rows with even numbered groups, that would work perfect.

Excel Facts

What is the last column in Excel?
Excel columns run from A to Z, AA to AZ, AAA to XFD. The last column is XFD.
Highlight all of your rows, and apply the following conditional formatting:

Code:
=MOD($A2,2)=0

Then give that conditional format the shading you want and click OK.
