Sheet reference from cell

hi ,

i need to refer a sheet name which is in cell a1 to a formula

eg.

countif(sheet1!$a:$a,"y") instead of this can i refer cell a1 which has sheet1 in the formula as below countif(a1!$a:$a,"y")

Try:

=countif(indirect(a1 & "!a:a),"y")
