I sometimes want to paste only values, or only formats. I type alt-e-s-(t or v) to do this. Is there a shorter way? A 4 key shortcut isnt all that short.

Also sometimes when I do this I dont get the expected screen. I'm not sure how to describe what I get instead, since I only get it occasionally, but its some kinda list from which items can be selected. I usually cancel it but last time I selected "Text" in it, which was the last option, and I got the values pasted that I wanted.

What is this screen and how does one avoid it?

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.
In Excel 2007/2010: CTRL-ALT-V will bring up the Paste Special Window

You can add a button to your toolbar to process each command.

On the Tools menu, click Customize.
In the Customize dialog box, click the Commands tab
Select the Edit category.
Scroll down the Commands list.
Drag the 'Paste Values' command by holding down the right mouse button and moving the button to your toolbar.
Close the dialog box.

Now you can paste values in one click.

You should be able to add a button to paste formats as well.
