Show data in cell rather than completing a function

I often need to input data such as "1/50" or "6/10" in a cell. To avoid it carrying out a arithmetic function with the data, currently the only way I know to do it is to precede the data with an apostrophe. Is there a way to format the cell so the apostrophe isn't needed?

Thanks!

Repeat Last Command
Pressing F4 adds dollar signs when editing a formula. When not editing, F4 repeats last command.
In XL2003

Tools - Options - Transition
UNcheck "Transition formula entry"

Hope that helps.
