Show/hide formulas

I'm trying to do a simple =Sheet1!E2 formula. Instead of getting the contents of cell E2, I'm getting =Sheet1!E2 for the result.

Have you toggled the sheet open by mistake?

Use the Ctrl + ¬ (Below Escape Key) this acts like a switch key, press together once display formula as text and press together again shows normal sheet view.

Is the cell you're typing into formatted as text ?
If yes, change the format to be General.
Edit the cell, press enter.

Sheesh! I tried almost everyfomatting option EXCEPT General. Thanks! it worked.
