Show variable result as a "+" or "-" value

Hi, I need to show a variable with the "+" or "-" symbols as part of the result. I think it can be done in conditional formatting, though can't remember how.
An example of what I want to do would be,

week one sales = 5, week two sales = 3, sales variable = "-2"

Thanks for your assistance in advance.

Select the cell (or range) you want to have the + symbol showing, then select menu option Format > Cells > Number tab > set Category to 'Custom' > in the 'Type' box enter the following:

+#,##0;-#,##0;0
