simple lookup

Good morning all, If your in Michigan I hope your enjoying the snow.
here is a simple formula question. I tried to look through the posts but most are more complicated and too much for me to make work.

cell U6 has a name, formula in cell V6

AP6:AP105 contains a list of names,AO6:AO105 contains last names.

There are some blank cells and some cell contain numbers. What formula would I put into V6 so it will look at U6 and find a match in AP6:AP105, then find whats in the cell to the left of it in AO6:AO105 ? and if U6 is empty then "" ?

I do not believe there are duplicates but it is possible.

Try

=IF(U6="","",INDEX($AO$6:$AO$105,MATCH(U6,$AP$6:$AP$105,0)))

In case of duplicates this will find the first match, If you want all matches (e.g. in V6, V7 etcetera), it will be more complicated
