What decides how much text that can fit in a cell? In one spreadsheet, I have a text that is 1844 characters. When I copy-paste the contents of this cell into a cell in another spreadsheet, only the first 255 characters are pasted into the cell.

Hi Bengt

Are these workbooks opened in separate Excel sessions? If so, try opening them in the same session then performing the copy & paste.

I am not sure how to do this. The "Source"-workbook is not produced synchronously, and also comes from another computer. If that were not the case, how would I go about to open the workbooks in the same session?

(Windows 7, Excel 2003)

OK; I'll try that, but more specifically, why does it matter if I open the two workbooks in the same session? What is it that causes Excel to only accept the first 255 characters in one case, while in another case, it gladly accepts any number of characters (up to 32767)? Is there a work around that is available?

The problem I have highlighted results from having two Excel sessions open on the same computer. If you don't have this, then your problem is the result of something else. If both workbooks are open in the same session then AFAIK you shouldn't be restricted between copy and pasting large text strings between both workbooks.
