I have a bunch (sometimes in excess of 6000 lines) of data in one column - it is currency so two digit decimal. I know that some combination of the figures (maybe just one or 20+) will equal a static number that I have; how do I get excel to figure out the combination - I need excel to tell me which figures to combine not simply that a combination exists (cause I already know that).

If you can help I will  to you and (y) in your honor!

Excel Facts

Format cells as time
Select range and press Ctrl+Shift+2 to format cells as time. (Shift 2 is the @ sign).
Excel/Solver will choke on 6,000 rows of data. There are approx. 5.3 billion combinations with only 600 rows and a possible 4 items in each combination.

With a test file of just 500 rows, Solver returned “Too many adjustable cells”. When reduced to 100 rows, Solver (Excel XP) took just under 2 minutes to find a combination of 8 numbers that equaled the target amount (there was another combination of 6 numbers that also equaled the target amount, but Solver returns only one solution).

Sorry, not much help to you.

Regards,

Mike
