Sort dates and years together

I have a list of dates with different years, and it seems that when I try to sort it, it will sort just by month not year.<o></o>
01-02-2011<o></o>
01-19-2008<o></o>
02-01-2008<o></o>
02-03-2010<o></o>
08-31-2011<o></o>
<o> </o>
But I want it to be like this<o></o>
01-19-2008<o></o>
02-01-2008<o></o>
02-03-2010<o></o>

Your dates are stored as text.

Select the columns and do Data > Text to columns, Finish.
