Sort from by row but first two rows missing

Hello -

I tried to sort the worksheet from left to right by the first row, but when I click short, then click "left to right", the drop down menu of "sort by" starts with row 3 but I need to sort by row 1.

I am guessing one reason could be that A1 A2 B1 B2 are merged as I use that area for the title.

Any suggestions?

Unmerge and use Format > Cells > Alignment tab, Center Across Selection instead.

thanks, but now that I sort the data by first row alphabetically, but it starts with letter C, than half way in the middle it starts with A. It it almost like the work sheet was devided into two two sections. Each section sorts independently

No, I don't have any merged cells in this worksheet. After I clicked sort by row, I have two separated groups of sorted columns. A to L is a group, L onward is the other group, both of them are sorted alphabetically, but I need them to be sorted as whole.

What did I do wrong?

Hi I figured it out, there is a space in some of those cells, that is why they didn't sort as a whole. After I cleaned up all th spaces, everything worked fine.

But from a glance, there is no way you can tell what cells have space and what cells don't
