Hi,

I have an equation that was copied from a website that I eventually want to put into an XL worksheet. Excel doesn't work with units and I'll figure that out later. However I am already stuck in sorting out the parentheses. The equation as copied is:
Code:
t = -ln(0.03 ÷ 0.15) ÷ (2.982 x 10^3 s^-1 x (1 + (17930 J/mol) ÷ (8.314 J/(mol*K) x 293.5 K) x 2.982 x 10^3 s^-1))

Can someone in the Forum rewrite this equation in a way so that I can figure out the parentheses using the bracket types below to show where the opens and closes are?

( ) { } [ ] < > / \

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Art

Excel Facts

Did you know Excel offers Filter by Selection?
Add the AutoFilter icon to the Quick Access Toolbar. Select a cell containing Apple, click AutoFilter, and you will get all rows with Apple
Excel Formula:
=-LN(0.03/0.15)/(2.982*10^3*(1+(17930)/(8.314*293.5)*2.982*10^3))

in other words:
=-LN[0.03/0.15] / [2.982*10^3* {1+(17930)/(8.314*293.5)*2.982*10^3}]

Solution
Excel Formula:
=-LN(0.03/0.15)/(2.982*10^3*(1+(17930)/(8.314*293.5)*2.982*10^3))

in other words:
=-LN[0.03/0.15] / [2.982*10^3* {1+(17930)/(8.314*293.5)*2.982*10^3}]
Hi Iggy,
Thanks for your response and suggestion. The XL formula required a tweak of adding in the ^-1 term in two places:
Excel Formula:
=-LN(0.03/0.15)/(2.982*10^3^-1*(1+(17930)/(8.314*293.5)*2.982*10^3^-1))

When I put this formula into a worksheet, it produces a reasonable result. :)

Thanks again,

Art

Oh I thought that was a part of the unit. I'm glad the issue is resolved.
