I have cells that contain either a three digit, four digit or five digit number followed by a name. How can you split that cell (without using text to columns) so that in one new cell it contains the number and the next column it says the name. I am still a newbie to excel

thanks

Excel Facts

Show numbers in thousands?
Use a custom number format of #,##0,K. Each comma after the final 0 will divide the displayed number by another thousand
Is there a space or something else that separates the number from the name?

Yes, there is a space between the number and the text

I suggest that you update your Account details (or click your user name at the top right of the forum) so helpers always know what Excel version(s) & platform(s) you are using as the best solution often varies by version. (Don’t forget to scroll down & ‘Save’)

In that case how about
Excel Formula:
=LEFT(A2,FIND(" ",A2)-1)
and
Excel Formula:
=MID(A2,FIND(" ",A2)+1,100)
