Stacked Area Chart Issue

Hi all,

I've made myself a nice little Stacked Area Chart with months of the year on the X axis and values on the Y.

I'm displaying 4 sets of data from throughout the current year, however I want the chart to stop at July instead of drawing lines down to 0 in August where the is no data as yet.

I have tried using #N/A in the cells for August and the remaining months to the end of the year, but that hasn't worked....

Does anyone have any tips?

Hi thelostscott,

I had saved your post for a long time and then I realized what was going on and how to fix it.

To make a cliff chart like you describe, there is a quick fix.

Do the following:

1) Click on the chart
2) From the Design Ribbon, press the Select Data button
3) Press the Hidden and Empty Cells button (on the bottom left)
4) For Excel 2010, choose the Gaps radio button
For Excel 2007, choose the Zeros radio button and then Re-choose the Gaps radio button. (i think this is a bug in that it will show gaps being chosen, but when you save it it will revert back to zeros. You need to physically uncheck the Gaps and the Recheck the Gaps. This is what threw me for so long and why i saved your post. If you had 2007, you probably ran into this problem and didn't understand how to fix it as it looked like it was correct. This appears to be fixed in 2010 in that Zeros are chosen as the default.

You will now see cliffs in your excel stacked area chart or area chart.

Here is a tutorial:

Let me know if this is what you were looking to do.
