As near as I can tell, Excel plots std dev values for the whole dataset. What I need is a std dev bar for EACH bar in my graph. In other words, the data in the first bar has its own std dev, as does the next, etc. How can I display these values in the standard format for std dev?
example
A B C D
Data 4.86 4.73 5.06 4.49
Std Dev 0.77 0.74 0.65 0.74

Can you AutoAverage in Excel?
There is a drop-down next to the AutoSum symbol. Open the drop-down to choose AVERAGE, COUNT, MAX, or MIN
You're link helped me realize that Excel 2010 has improved the ability to customize error bars tremendously over the older versions that I used to use. Thanks - I was able to get what I wanted.
