Subtotal consolidation

This could be an easy one, but I can't figure it out...I have a sheet with various columns of data, and in some I need to subtotal by sum, others by average. The subtotal function appears to be exclusive when it comes to the type of subtotal I want--I can either do sum or average for the selected columns in one command, but not both. I can run it twice and change functions, but the problem is I'm ending up with multiple line totals, one for sum, and below it, one for average. I want to get the results across one line. Is there a simple way to do this? Any help here is appreciated.
