SUM a range of letters between certain dates

I have 4 colums of data where I'd like to sum the column with named range GAMES which contains simply a W or L in each cell.

In the column with named range DATES, there are dates and the user can choose a startdate and enddate.

I'd like to sum the total number of W's and L's between the dates the user chooses.

below is the data range. right now I used
=SUMIFS(GAMES,DATES,">="&StartDate,DATES,"<="&EndDate)

but it is giving me 0 as a result... please help!!

in a similar fashion, I'm trying to sum a range called RUNS if the date falls between the start date and end date... and divide another number by that result... my formula is returning #VALUE however... mind taking a look?

=N25/(SUMIFS(runs,DATES,">="&StartDate,DATES,"<="&EndDate))

The formula is syntactically correct. There's an extra set of ( ) but that won't cause a problem

If N25 contains a TEXT entry you'll get the #VALUE! error.

The RUNS range actually contains formulas which pull values from another range of cells... Could that be giving me my #VALUE error?

Do any of the named ranges consist of more than a single row or single column?

What are the actual range addresses of the named ranges?

The named ranges are down a single column, so they do contain more than one row.

RUNS is referring to cells =DAILYPITCHES!$V$4:$V$187

DATES is referring to cells =GAMELOG!$X$2:$X$166

Ok, the ranges have to be the same size.

DAILYPITCHES!$V$4:$V$187 = 187 cells

GAMELOG!$X$2:$X$166 = 165 cells

Both ranges have to be either 187 cells or 165 cells.
