hi
i've got a personal expense report layed out like this:

____A__________B_________C__
01_date......desciption...amount
02_Aug-02...Paycheck.....+200.00
03_Aug-03...Gas...............-50.00
04_Aug-04...Food.............-60.00
05_Aug-05...Savings.........-90.00
06_Aug-06...Paycheck.....+200.00
07_Aug-07...Gas...............-50.00
08_Aug-08...Food.............-60.00
09_Aug-09...Savings.........-90.00
10_Aug-10...Paycheck.....+200.00
11_Aug-11...Gas...............-50.00
[...]
33_________Total.............150.00
34_____Savings To Date... 180.00

right before i get my next paycheck i put whatever money i have extra into my savings. so since i get 200 and then spend 50+60, i put 90 into savings (electronic transfer between my checkings and savings account). on the bottom i have the total which i compare to my checkings account (i only use my credit card for expenses) and then id like to total my savings to compare to my savings account. so my question really is: how do i sum up the cells in the amount column to the right of "Savings"?

thanks:beerchug:

Excel Facts

Workdays for a market open Mon, Wed, Friday?
Yes! Use "0101011" for the weekend argument in NETWORKDAYS.INTL or WORKDAY.INTL. The 7 digits start on Monday. 1 means it is a weekend.

Try this...

SUMIF(B2:B100,"savings",C2:C100)

Adjust the ranges to suit.
