I have figures in several rows and wish to take the sum of those figures, and multiply them times a dollar amount. Sounds so simple, but it won't work. I'm sure I am missing something simple in my formula? The only way it will work is if I put a total of the rows in another cell and then put a formula in my desired cell to multiply that total times my dollar amount. I'm sure that is not the only way it would work. Here's what I used, but it will not work?

=sum(d3:d22)*2.95 "2.95" being a dollar amount.

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you! :)

Excel Facts

Bring active cell back into view
Start at A1 and select to A9999 while writing a formula, you can't see A1 anymore. Press Ctrl+Backspace to bring active cell into view.
Can you show some sample data of what you see and also what you think should be the result.

what result are you getting? Nothing apparently wrong here (other than that you shouldn't put a value in a formula, but thats just best practice...)
