Hi fellas

I'd like to sum up all values in column B that begin with a certain string of letters (e.g. ABC) in column A.

You can teach Excel a new custom list. Type the list in cells, File, Options, Advanced, Edit Custom Lists, Import, OK
And in VBA, that would be
Code:
range("A102").formula = "=SUMIF(A1:A100,""abc*"",B1:B100)"

I'll try this and see if it works. Assuming it does, can I then take the proportion of each "abc*" value to the sum. In other words, i know that i will only have two names that begin with the same characters. I would like to find the proportion of each to the sum of both (70/100 = 70%; 30/100 = 30%)

Thanks
