i need a formula to sum if the value in the data is greater than 1 and less than 5
 

Excel Facts

Which lookup functions find a value equal or greater than the lookup value?
MATCH uses -1 to find larger value (lookup table must be sorted ZA). XLOOKUP uses 1 to find values greater and does not need to be sorted.

Let A2:A20 house the numeric data of interest, E1 1 -the first condition, and F1 5 -the second condition.

=SUMIF(A2:A20,">"&E1)-SUMIF(A2:A20,">="&F1)

should give you the desired sum.
