Hi,

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to Access so please stick with me:

I have a table that contains 3000 records with the following info:

Staff Name (Text)
Department (Text)
Work Level (1 to 5 numerical)

I want to be able to build a query that will look at these 3000 records and produce a table that looks thus:

<TABLE style="WIDTH: 289pt; BORDER-COLLAPSE: collapse" cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width=386 border=0 x:str><COLGROUP><COL style="WIDTH: 8pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 469" width=11><COL style="WIDTH: 63pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 3584" width=84><COL style="WIDTH: 42pt" span=5 width=56><COL style="WIDTH: 8pt; mso-width-source: userset; mso-width-alt: 469" width=11><TBODY><TR style="HEIGHT: 12pt" height=16><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #e0dfe3; Is this a query or a report? what would I need to do?

Kind regards,

Excel Facts

Excel Can Read to You
Customize Quick Access Toolbar. From All Commands, add Speak Cells or Speak Cells on Enter to QAT. Select cells. Press Speak Cells.
OK, I recognize the Departments in your desired output, but what are those other columns/numbers?

I am guessing you might be looking for a Cross-Tab Query or an Aggregate Query, though I can be sure because I don't know what the numbers in your desired output are (sums of something?). You may want to check out Access' built-in help on these two query types and see if it looks like either one is what you are looking for.

Pretty sure it's a cross tan you want, but like Joe I can't quite see where the numbers in the middle come.

Is it perhaps a count of staff per department per level.
