Supress Pivot Table subtotal for single row using VBA

Has anyone found some code to supress subtotals in a Pivot Table when only one row of data exists in table. So for summary pivot table lines that show only one row... you would supress the subtotal line, but for categories with multiple rows you would expand section and show the subtotal. Thanks in advance

example of what I want

Southeast 100

NorthEast 100
NorthEast 300
subtotal NorthEast 400

instead of what Excel does by default:
Southeast 100
subtotal Southeast 100

NorthEast 100
NorthEast 300
subtotal NorthEast 400
